Fraud is always a threat to nonprofit organizations. Tight budgets and staff shortages often contribute to a lack of oversight and prevention measures. Many nonprofits are based on charity, goodwill, and a genuine need to help others, so often trust is just part of the fabric. This makes nonprofits more vulnerable, and the cost of vulnerability is a high one.  

However, after this session, your detective skills will give Sherlock Holmes a run for his money.

  • Understand the impact of fraud on nonprofits 
  • Understand the profile of someone most likely to commit fraud 
  • Understand the most common types of fraud that occur 
  • Understand how you can use accounting software to deter fraud

Brandy has been an avid volunteer since childhood, working primarily with nonprofits who specialize in child advocacy and animal welfare, and has served on the board of two animal welfare organizations in Austin, TX. Since 2010, she has been working closely with nonprofits to understand their unique challenges and develop technology solutions that empower them to achieve their missions.

Scott Williams
Solutions Engineer, Community Brands – MIP Fund Accounting
Scott has spent the past 12 years working with MIP, and the past 19 years in the nonprofit sector as both an accountant and consultant. His successful implementations range from single user “one stop shop” accounting shops, to 100+ user multi-site and international organizations. Prior to his nonprofit work, with his BA in Accounting, Scott spent time in public accounting, manufacturing, restaurant franchise accounting and a long list of odd jobs. This experience has allowed him to relate to and understand a wide range of organizations and how they work.
